Background

Continuous crops such as fruit tree crops are affected by replant disease and yield decline.

The enhancement of microbial biomass and diversity in agricultural soils increases biological fertility and soil health.

Research areas in the Europe

Apple  Growing areas of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy
Citrus in Spain (Velencia) and Turkey

General aim of the project: to increase soil health and biological fertility of fruit tree crops.

Research Strategy

  1. To set   innovative agro-management practices on basis soil microbial communities response to the inputs.
  2. To exploit natural resources.

Natural resources  of BIO-INCROP Project:

Biological resources indigenous to the orchard soil system

  1. Soil inhabiting microbial communities
  2. Wild plant species able to colonize orchard ground cover

Natural resources exogenous to orchards

  1. Waste derived material
  2. Biological active formulates or beneficial organisms
